Where else but Dubai would you expect a theme park to be built devoted to Bollywood?
Already well-known for its extravagant, biggest-is-best world-firsts – achieved with varying degrees of taste – the United Arab Emirates is hitting full throttle this year.
Bollywood Parks is one of three massive theme parks all opening simultaneously in October 2016 in a 230-hectare ‘resort’.
Here’s an insight into what’s in store.
When it opens, Bollywood Parks, as part of Dubai Parks and Resorts, will be the biggest theme park in the Middle East and Indian subcontinent. The resort’s owners are forecasting 6.7 million visitors in its first year; that’s 18,000 people per day.
Even if theme parks are not your thing, the scale and ambition of this development is staggering.
And believe it or not, this resort is competing for attention with another opening this year.
Just up the road, the world’s largest indoor theme park, IMG World’s of Adventure, opens in August.
And there’s another three huge parks under construction in the UAE that will open by the end of 2018 including Warner Bros theme park on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
Finally, to balance things up a wee bit, here’s what Dubai is planning for an eco-friendly resort … it’s hailed the “world’s greenest” of course.
