Viking launches two new ships
Viking Hild and Viking Herja are the latest river vessels to join the Viking fleet.
Viking Hild will sail the Rhine River from April on Viking’s Paris to the Swiss Alps itinerary, and later this year both new ships will sail Viking’s popular Danube Waltz and Rhine Getaway itineraries.
The new ships provide more spacious and open interiors and accommodate 190 guests, in 95 staterooms.
Victorian capital will be the centre of the food universe
Melbourne foodies are invited to share the excitement of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards at the world’s first public countdown and screening of the prestigious event at Federation Square.
Taking place on April 5, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards countdown and live screening is free and open to everyone.
Bringing together several of the city’s well-known attributes, a picnic-themed Federation Square will play host to an evening of entertainment, featuring comedians from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (29 March – 23 April), live music curated by Music Victoria, and dinner options from some of the city’s best food trucks – all serving up Victorian produce.
The Federation Square event will begin with food trucks serving up dinner from 5.30pm. Comedians and musicians begin the entertainment at 7pm and the live streaming of the awards begin from 8.30pm.
Singapore Airlines to JETÉ ballet lovers to London
Courtesy of a new partnership between Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and Singapore Airlines, two lucky ballet lovers will be winging their way to London for a trip of a lifetime, as recipients of one of the biggest prize packages in QPAC’s history.
Singapore Airlines is Airline Partner for QPAC’s International Series which this year will present a national exclusive season of two productions by Britain’s flagship ballet company, The Royal Ballet.

Thredbo Jazz Festival turning 30
The 2017 Thredbo Jazz Festival is set to be one to remember with a big celebration of the best in Australian Jazz and Roots Music on the rooftop of Australia.
Thredbo will be swinging April 28-30 as this year’s line-up is outstanding and is sure to delight lovers of all jazz genres.
Lisa Hunt and Forever Soul will make a debut appearance in Thredbo with Lisa’s extraordinary voice setting the soul free for some late night partying. Australian Jazz Legend Bob Barnard is back with the Barnard Family Jazz Band and for more dancing than a cuban conga line Chukale is bringing the Latin Big Band back to the village.

Virgin Australia Melbourne to Hong Kong
Earlier this month we announced Virgin Australia’s intention to launch Hong Kong flights.
That intent is now confirmed with flights between Melbourne and Hong Kong scheduled to start on July 5. The five services per week will operate Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Michael Palin to headline Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival
The ninth annual Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival is shaping up to be the biggest yet.
Held from June 2-4, the festival will feature renowned British comedian, actor, writer and television presenter Michael Palin. Well-known as a member of Monty Python, Palin has appeared in numerous films and has presented eight successful travel series.
Other standout speakers featured on the festival line-up include one of Australia’s most distinguished and respected journalists Kerry O’Brien, and writer, speaker and feminist thinker Clementine Ford.
Queen Victoria makeover
She is one of the grand dames of the seas and now Cunard’s iconic Queen Victoria is preparing for a refurbishment of her staterooms and public spaces.
The much-loved ship is set to enter dry-dock this coming May for a $54 million facelift from bow to stern. Part of the makeover will see the addition of 43 brand new Britannia Club category staterooms with their own dedicated restaurant, a redesign of the liner’s Grand Suites and Deck 8 aft Penthouse Suites, as well as a new Chart Room bar.
