4-stars.
The one thing not to be missed is?
I’ve got a few for this because there are so many wonderful things to do in the surrounding area!
My first has to be the Amalfi Coast. From Sorrento you can be at the heart of the Amalfi Coast within an hour and it boasts some of the most picturesque views with its dramatic clifftop roads and brightly coloured buildings.
Herculaneum, the little sister of Pompeii if you like, is another destination that you should definitely not overlook! The city of Herculaneum was also destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, however it is much better preserved. The homes and their mosaics are still extremely clear and the site is also much smaller than that of Pompeii so you are able to spend much more time looking around.
Monte Solaro on the island of Capri is my last recommendation. The summit can be reached via chairlift from Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri and takes just 12 minutes and once at the top you are treated to an amazing panoramic view from 589 metres above sea level.

If I had more time, I would have …
Spent more time exploring Sorrento itself, visited the island of Ischia and its beautiful gardens and hiked to the top of Mount Vesuvius.
My hot travel tip is …
The Bagni della Regina Giovanna (the Baths of Queen Joan) are located just around the coast from Sorrento, within walking distance along Via Capo or also accessible via bus.
The baths have amazing clear water and attract very few tourists so make for the perfect relaxing day. There is also a lovely water side ‘American Bar’, where you can borrow a deckchair or have a bite to eat with some drinks!
How do you rank this trip?
An excellent holiday although I think Madeira might just pip it to the post!
My favourite meal was …
Pasta, pizza, gelato, Italy for sure does it the best! Any of the little gelaterias down the narrow streets in Sorrento will give you a real treat. Not so much a meal, but the liqueur Limoncello, is made from the zest of the Sorrento lemon and is the local drink, so definitely worth trying some while you’re there!
I never travel without …
My phone. Essential for finding things to do if you can find some WiFi, and also really handy for any flight check ins and electronic copies of any travel documents.
