We love the romance of the mighty cruise ships as they lie in port preparing for their next voyage but have you ever considered how these giants are actually built?
This incredible video shows you; witness an $870 million jigsaw being put together to ultimately become a floating destination unto itself.
The flagship of AIDA Cruises – a German-based but British-American owned cruiseline – AIDAprima was only christened in May 2016 in Hamburg and the assembly yard in the video was in Nagasaki, Japan.
This timelapse video shows how she was built from scratch and now hosts up to 3300 guests and 900 crew across her 18 passenger decks.
And with the German flair for sophisticated design backed by Japanese technology, the AIDAprima boasts several cutting edge innovations in the world of cruising.
The Beach Club pool area for example sits under a weather-proof transparent dome and a new system of air bubbles that “coat” the hull reduce friction against water and therefore reduce fuel emissions.
AIDAprima’s initial itinerary program focuses on short Western Europe round-trip sailings from Hamburg and Rotterdam and later cruises in Asia from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
