Experience Africa
Here’s just a sample of the unique experiences available on an African tour with Scenic.
MOKORO CANOE SAFARI
A ‘mokoro’ is a traditional dug-out canoe and Botswana’s Okavango Delta is one of the few places on earth where you can indulge in this truly unique and thrilling safari experience. Your ‘poler’ (guide) will navigate you through the shallow waters in search of wildlife for an entirely different perspective.
ZAMBEZI RIVER CRUISE
Your sunset cruise will begin about 5-kilometres upstream of Victoria Falls for a slow and leisurely cruise on the calm waters of the Zambezi River. As you make your way towards the distant spray of Victoria Falls, enjoying champagne and cocktails, a guide will point out the animals you can see, and the ones you cannot. On shore you will see elephant, giraffes and spectacular birdlife, and in the river expect hippos and crocodiles. This is all set against the magical backdrop of an unforgettable African sunset.

TRADITIONAL MAASAI VILLAGE VISIT
A visit to Kenya’s most famous tribe gives a fascinating look into how these traditional African warriors live. You will learn about this complex and proudly independent culture and their close association with the wild animals. Watch young men jump high (the jumping skill is a way to impress and attract a female partner), as the females of the tribe treat you to traditional song and dance, before being welcomed to see how they live and build their mud huts.

STELLENBOSCH WINELANDS TOUR
Head 50-kilometres inland to the colonial university town of Stellenbosch. Set in the stunning heart of the winelands country, Stellenbosch was founded in 1679, the same year the first vines were planted. Today this popular region is home to over 150 wineries producing some of the world’s most famous vintages.
BLUE TRAIN – CAPE TOWN TO PRETORIA
Perhaps the last thing you expect in coming to Africa is to find yourself spirited along on a world-class luxury rail journey. However, that’s precisely the experience awaiting you on board the Blue Train between South Africa’s two traditional capitals, Pretoria and Cape Town, or the Rovos Rail service from Victoria Falls to Pretoria. You can look forward to a private suite, impeccable service, complimentary drinks, private butlers, and an observation car.
SANDWICH HARBOUR
Situated in the north of Namib Naukluft Park, Sandwich Harbour consists of a 10-kilometre long lagoon, surrounded by sand dunes and vegetated by reeds. This bay is home to more than 200,000 birds (flamingos, cormorants, pelicans and other sea birds) where the dry desert dunes literally meet and kiss the sea. A truly remarkable sight.
ABU SIMBEL
Abu Simbel is one of Egypt’s most magnificent monuments and the resting place of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. Dominated by four imposing statues in front of the main temple, it was carved out of the mountainside in the 13th century BC. The enormous World Heritage-Listed temples were rescued from the rising waters of the Aswan Dam and meticulously moved, stone-by-stone, to higher ground in 1968 for protection.
See it on Scenic’s The Essence of Egypt and Jordan.
TEMPLE OF DENDERA
Dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love, joy and beauty, The Temple of Dendera is one of the best preserved in Egypt. Dendera was associated with healing and attracted people travelling from far and wide seeking cures. Patients were housed in special buildings where it was said they could ‘rest, sleep and commune with the Gods in their dreams’.
