Where are the most popular Instagram locations from around Australia and around the world? We have the answers here.
But first, why is the world so addicted to social media? We seem to be obsessed with this fast-paced, self-gratifying, instant power at our fingertips.
Once-upon-a-time, actually not that long ago, we would wait for the daily newspaper or the 6pm TV news to keep us up-to-date with the day’s social and current affairs.
But now, thanks to the introduction of smart phones and tablets, we live in the era of Social Media and instant online news resources, which we have become so reliant on for our daily information. Including social media platforms.
How big has social media become?
Social applications are a generally free platform where anyone can exchange in shared interests or promote their product or business with like-minded people.
In fact, some of the most popular Instagram accounts are that of fashion retail giants such as Nike, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Gucci. Nike alone has over 300 million followers, eagerly waiting for the next picture or video to be uploaded.

Fun Instagram facts (January 2017)
- More than 400 million Instagram users
- More than 30 billion photos have been shared
- Over 3.5 billion Instagram likes on photos each day
- More than 80 million photos are uploaded daily
- In 2012, Facebook purchased Instagram for a tidy $1billion.
We have easy access to a flurry of social apps that allow us to share, like, tweet and post those selfies that everyone just loves. There are more social apps than we know what to do with.
We have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat (snap who?) and a raft of other social applications to choose from, and it seems we naturally love to share our current location and flooding our social media feeds with beautiful pictures for friends and family back home.
But why do we love this phenomenon so much? Is it part we voyeuristically love to share what we are doing, where we are and what incredible sights and foods we are enjoying at that moment of time? Or maybe, just maybe, because we want show off just a little too and be the envy of those sitting at home or working from their desk?
Either way, the age of social media is here, and love it or loathe it, it’s not going away anytime soon. I see it almost as the modern version of a slide-night or printing double photographs from my film camera.
